Rules and Regulations in PhD

  • Should possess a Master’s degree of a recognized university/institution in a relevant subject (relevant to the discipline in which the candidate is seeking a Ph.D. degree).
  • Relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently-Abled categories or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
  • The registration will be valid for a period of six years from the date of registration  and no further extension will be granted under normal circumstances.
  • After six years, if a candidate wishes to continue research, he / she will be required to apply for retention. A candidate should apply for retention before completion of six years of registration period. 
  • If the retention application is received after 1stJanuary / 1stJuly, a candidate will be required to register again following the procedure for fresh candidates. The retention will be valid for a period of two years only.
  • Part-time Internal Candidates are those who are employed full-time at SIU and are permitted to pursue Ph.D.
  • Foreign nationals, satisfying R 1 or its approved equivalent decided by the Institute, whose applications are received through Indian Council of Cultural Relations,Government of India are also eligible to apply.
  • The maximum age limit for admission to Ph.D programme is 50 years.
  • A candidate becomes eligible for the award of the PhD degree after fulfilling all the academic requirements prescribed by the the Institute.
  • The course work must be completed in the First Two years of registration
